Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO), Michael Pierluisi, said there were no fines issued for business before the start of Christmas sales.
"So far no fines have been issued." If there is a trade violating one of the regulations we will be fined, "Pierluisi said in a statement to the press.
The DACO secretary visited the Hato King's Best Buy store and ensured that there was more merchandise than advertised by the merchant.
"There are several shops open today, others tomorrow. I think it helps consumers to have more choices," he said.
Some shops operate on Thanksgiving at five o'clock in the afternoon, before traditional sales get up early on what is called Black Friday.
Other businesses on the island operate as usual.
