Significant Criteria Of beer keg sizes - An Update

Most brewers may know how many servings come in half  barrels, but we have prepared a barrel size guide so you will know exactly how many servings in a standard US barrel.

Between half barrel barrels, barrel per barrel and six barrel barrels, we break down the number of 12-ounce servings that you can expect from each standard-size barrel. For factories and restaurants serving with pints, we also list the number of 16-ounce pints each barrel can contain.

HALF-BARREL KEG SIZE (1/2 BBL)

Half barrel barrel is the most common type of barrel in the US. When you think of the average barrel as seen in movies or on TV, you can bet that it is most likely from a half barrel variation. Despite its name, a half barrel barrel is considered a full-sized container in the US industry, and measures in a capacity of 15.5 gallons in volume.

HALF-BARREL KEG VOLUME & MEASUREMENTS:
15.5 gallons = 58.67 liters

58.67 Liter = 1,984 Ounces

12 oz. Pouring: 165

16 oz. Pour (Pint): 124

Diameter: 15.55 ″ (39.5 cm)

Height: 23.62 ″ (60 cm)

QUARTER-BARREL KEG SIZE (1/4 BBL)

One step below half a barrel is a barrel per barrel, which is a thin container that holds half the volume of a barrel and a half barrel. Often bought to save space in the taproom or for smaller batch brews, barrels per barrel offer 82 (and half) 12-ounce pour or 62 16-ounce, pint-size.

QUARTER-BARREL KEG VOLUME & MEASUREMENTS:
7.75 Gallons = 29.34 Liters

29.34 Liter = 992 Ounces

12 oz. Pouring: 82

16 oz. Pour (Pint): 62

Diameter: 11.18 ″ (28.4 cm)

Height: 23.62 ″ (60 cm)

SIXTH-BARREL KEG SIZE (1/6 BBL)

The six barrel barrel is the thinnest barrel of all standard sizes and a total of up to 5.16 US gallons (19.53 liters) in volume. Like barrels per barrel, six barrel barrels are often used for small brew or limited edition or for footprints that need to save horizontal space. A barrel of six barrels can contain a total of around 660 ounces: equivalent to 55 12-ounces of pouring or 41 16 ounces of pouring.

SIXTH-BARREL KEG VOLUME & MEASUREMENTS:
5.16 Gallons = 19.53 Liters

19.53 Liter = 660 Ounces

12 oz. Pouring: 55

16 oz. Pour (Pint): 41

Diameter: 8.98 ″ (22.8 cm)

Height: 23.62 ″ (60 cm)

To recap:

With a standard measurement of a US barrel, 1/2 bbl of total barrel becomes 15.5 gallons or 165 12 oz. pour, 1/4 bbl of total barrel to 7.75 gallons or 82 12 oz. pouring, and 1/6 bbl in total to 5.16 gallons or 55 12 oz. pouring.
